It was a very scary moment seeing KG leave the game holding his side. He said that it has been bothering him but he didn't mention it to the coaches. A feeling like a sniper shot sounds like something tore. I had flashbacks to last season when Kandi said something similar and sat out most of the season with an abdominal tear. I also had flashbacks to that game when Bird's head bounced off the floor and he came back to lead the Celtics to victory. I remember he said that he saw 3 baskets and just aimed for the middle one. We really would be in trouble if KG has to be out, but if he has an injury it would be better to sit him now and have him healed for the stretch run.
While I am discussing KG, why in the world did he only get 5 shots in the Wolves game. They should be going to him a lot more. In the Wolves game especially, he was matched up with Ryan Gomes who was 4+ inches shorter than him and he had the mismatch they should have been exploiting. There was no excuse for him just taking 5 shots.
Big Al has some McHalesque moves around the hoop. He said that McHale has been working with him daily and it shows. Big Al is such a great kid. He says he still follows the Celtics and watches them whenever he can. That is so refreshing in this league of disgruntled players looking for revenge against their former teams. I really wish the best for him. Maybe some day he will come back to Boston.
Perk had another geat game against the Wolves. Second game in a week that he was the high scorer. I have seen several posts lately criticizing Perk but I'll go with what KG said after the Wolves game. He said that Perk knows his role and fills it perfectly. He does a lot of things that don't show up in the box score and if you don't watch him, you don't even realize it. Both Doc and KG say that Perk knows his role and does it. He is a very good center for this team because he is willing to do the dirty work and doesn't seek the spotlight.
Gerald Green and now Wally are both asking for trades from their current teams. Wally is unhappy having to play behind Jeff Green and Kevin Durant and he says that he doesn't have the time to wait around for the rebuilding. Since he is making twice as much as any other Sonic, they would probably love to get rid of him too. Problem is, there probably won't be many takers for an older, injury prone shooter. Well, there is always Isiah. Gerald still looks lost out there and maybe something will click and he will get it but it hasn't happened yet. But then, he is only 22 years old and has so much athleticism and maybe he will make it.
Damon Stoudamire will be bought out by the Grizzlies and will clear waivers by Wednesday. He has shown definite interest in the Celtics. The Raptors and Suns are also vying for his services. The question is whether Danny is interested in him or not. The Celtics definitely need a back up point guard. That is one of their weaknesses. But is Stoudamire the best fit? I have my doubts but we should know by Wednesday one way or the other. There is always the possibility of Sam Cassell or Gary Payton if the Celtics pass on Stoudamire. Cassell brings a relationship with KG and Payton already knows Doc's system. Of course, there may be someone else out there that hasn't even been discussed. The only sure thing is that we need another point guard and hopefully Danny will sign someone with enough time for the chemistry to build with the rest of the team.
Ray Allen has really struggled this season so far. He has had just a handful of games that you could consider good shooting games. There have been some excuses given including the sore ankle at first, then it was the pinched nerve and then seemingly the ship had righted as he had a couple of good games coming back from that. There has also been the suggestion all along that Ray has had to make the biggest adjustment. He is shooting 41.8% from the floor, down from 44.55 for his career. It was very evident in his game against the Wolves that something is amiss as he shot 3-13 and missed several easy dunks. My guess is either fatigue or the ankle is still bothering him. He just isn't getting lift on his jumpers or layups. He could really use a rest over the All Star break.
Rondo is also struggling especially on defense. Maybe the back and hamstring are still bothering him. Then again, the whole team seems to be struggling on defense as of late. After building the leagues best defense early on, they have gotten away from it. They have to get back to that swarming defense, but it takes effort and commitment from every player. Allowing the Raptors to shoot 58% from the field and 71% from beyond the arc is inexcusable for any team, let alone a team that prides itself on its defensive identity. Getting back to defense is more important than fixing what is wrong with the offense. If the defense gets back on track, the offense will follow.
Today's game against the Magic is a big one for a couple of reasons. First, they are a team we may meet in the playoffs and so far each team has held serve on their own court. The Celtics haven't won in Orlando since 2004. It would give the Celtics a mental edge to go in and win this one. Both teams got off to a hot start but have cooled off somewhat. The Celtics are just 5-4 in their last 9 games and the Magic are just 13-15 since their 14-3 start. Along with sending a message to Orlando, the Celtics need a game to get back on track. They have been playing some uninspired ball lately and need to get their edge back. This one is the first game on ABC for at least a couple of years and they need to make a good showing on national TV.

Stoudamire, Grizzlies Agree to Buyout
by FLCeltsFan 7:10 PM
Marc Spears reports in the Globe that Damon Stoudamire and the Grizzlies have come to a verbal agreement on a buyout for the 34 year old point guard. They are expected to finalize the deal and make it official on Monday. He should clear waivers on Monday.
The Raptors, Suns and Celtics have all been reported to be interested in signing him. The Raptors and Celtics have the most need of a point guard. Stoudamire has expressed interest in playing for the Celtics, but then, who wouldn't want to play with KG, Pierce and Ray Allen. It has become obvious that the Celtics could use a back up point guard as when Rondo is out, there is a big drop off.
But, the real question is whether Danny is interested in Stoudamire. He has insisted that he is happy with the players that are already on the roster. Is Stoudamire the best that the Celtics can do? He is a 13 year veteran and is averaging 7.3 points per game and 3.9 assists. But these are about half of his career averages and the question is whether he still has enough left to help a team like the Celtics.

Comments from the Other Side - Wolves
by FLCeltsFan 9:22 AM
Here are comments found around the Wolves' boards
I bet last week you could've got 100 to 1 odds that the Wolves would be the ones coming into this game on a 2 game winning streak and the Celtics would be the ones coming in off a home loss. Thatd be awesome if we steal a win from Boston. Itd be the most happy I've felt since the 04 playoff run YeahI want us to win the series against them but KG to get his ring. I'm stoked for this game. So stoked that I might buy me a KG jersey. Which one do I buy? Im sorry manI'd go with the Al Jefferson jersey over any KG jersey's. New Era nowI know it's hard to let gobut let's not be like Cool Ethan and make a KG hair doll. Let's let him ride of into the Eastern Confrence sun set where he wins his title. KG who? I don't even remember that choker. I think he screams to much. And he shouldn't talk smackhe didn't won anything yet. And... And he run away from McGayessthat one time. And from Peeler too. Did I mention the fact that he's a choker? And he swears too much. And... And he's overrated. And a choker. Yeah. And he hates foreigners And he hates white players And he hates Rasho who's heaven forbid both And he doesn't like to take the last second shot And he's the world's tallest jumpshooter HE HATED WALLY! HE PUNCHED HIM! And Rickert too No Wolves fan should ever be this resentful of KG. He failed. He's a loser plain and simple. All statsno substance. And he's not a leader. And he used to threw talc on our broadcasters. KG built this franchiseI can't comprehend a Wolves fan he doesn't appreciate what he done. Look for a confident wolves team we just beat the suns and warriors 2 playoffs teams Boston is next This is the year of KG's redemption. Not only do the Celtics have the best record in the league and Wolves have the worstevery contributor from last year's Wolves team outside of KG is on a team that's worse than last year. Ricky Davis and Mark Blount are on the Heat. Hassell is on the Mavericks. He doesn't play but they are still worse. Mike James is on the Rockets. These guys bring down the likes of ShaqWadeYaoMcGrady and Nowitzki. Agreed. The team doesn't really seem to have any cancers on it. You'd think Walker would be upset about being on a losing teambut he's been very good. Jaric has actually started to show he's got value on a team. I think the only person really not happy is Gerald Greenbut he's always cheering and trying to be positive. All that alone makes this refreshing. This is going to be like that awkward moment at a party when you walk in with your new girlfriend but you see your old girlfriendwhom was your best friend but it just did not work outwith her new guy and you look at each othersmile as friendsbut wonder what might have been. In a perfect worldlast summer happens in reverse...KG stays hereMcHale manages to get both Ray Allen and Paul Pierce in tradesand the Wolves are sitting pretty right now with the best record in the league... As long as we're not making the postseason I root for KG to get his ring. When we'll eventually make it into postseason I don't care what KG does (unless he returns to minny Listening to some of KG's comments todayhe said there won't be emotion on Feb 8th. I think we all know that is a load of BS. How could there not be when you will have 18000 people standing up and cheering for you?? Gomes on KG is going to be awful for the Wolves. I miss KG! Rondo's D has eclipsed Bassy Butwe all have to admitBassy is pretty good for a throw-in So when is KG going to rip off that Celtics jersey to reveal his KG 21 wolves oneknock out Paul Peirceand spray NWO (New Wolves Order) on Peirce's back? Man Walker too. We got all of Boston's people. I don't like watching Green play. I know we will regret letting him go. I for one will have no regrets letting Green go. Yeshe's scored. We knew he could score. He's still out of control no-defense no-passing etc. If Wolves lose this game closeI'm going to blame Gerald taking more shots in the 2nd quarter than Al took in the first half. KG talking mess to big Al! Why did KG leave? The injury didn't look that bad. Is he sad? Perk is getting it done way too easy out there GET WALKER OUT! He couldn't walk to the locker room on his ownthey were checking his knee. Sounds serious. KG a man who has never been hurt in his life suddenly comes down with a tummy ache. Yea right. KG is still a wolf at heart he is trying. 73-69 Wolves ball as Telfair goes to the line. I don't think this was how anyone expected this to go. Celts are playing horriblyRay Allen is having a shocker and Doc wont get him off the court. Not sure how much faith there is in the wolves to finish this off though should be a good finish at least We should have wonthe game was decided on that no call when Al was covered by 2-3 Celtics Too bad I wasn't recordingI could have had evidence for the David Stern and the jury that will be present when the refs are put on trial. Well, that's the team this season in a nutshell though and it's a good representation of what happens with a somewhat talented but inexperienced team. They are good enough to win...but they don't. It's that last minute that counted tonight (as it has been how often so far this year). Why did you stole the ball KG?? It was in Boston.. Maybe the referees mistaked the Celtics for the Patriots.. It was funny to see Boston celebrate like they just won a title or something. Just beat the worst team in the league.....nice work boys. Wowa game that was ours and we blew it by not being able to inbounds the ball When I saw KG after the game holding out his jersey screaming I despised him KG was a jerk after with the crap he pulledthen proceeded to call our guys **** I also thought KG was pretty classless towards the Wolves fans watching on TV. I think I'd root for anyone to win the title over the Celtics. Ya KG has lost a lot of my respect. I will still always remember his time here and what he did for this franchise but as of right now I do not like Kevin garnett. I actually hated him for acting as they won the ship. His screaming was so awful. If I saw it correctly he screamed at least once "m'fer"... If he wanted to release some hate towards mchale do it otherwise but don't take it on to the wolves fans Why are so many people saying this? Is this not the way he acted every time after a close win when he was here? I was pumped up when I saw him celebratingpounded my chest a few times and threw down a few "m'fers" myself. Just as I did in the past when the Wolves would win a heated game. I think the difference here for most of you guys is that it wasn't a Wolves player doing it. I have to admitKevin's celebration made me a little angry. I guess I'm a bigger Wolves fan than I am a KG fan. And don't get me wrong I am a HUGE KG fanits just players come and go. I shed a tear the day they announced the trade but I'm over it now and I'm happy to see Kevin is happy. If we had a CENTER down low to box out Perkinsit prolly wouldve been a double digit win for the wolves...its kinda sad cuz Perkins is horrible You can celebrate a win without disrespecting your opponent. Perk is definitely not horrible not at all. Hes not horrible...im just sayin that out of frustration...he decent but shouldn't be scoring 21 pts...he bullied Big Al down lowthis is why the wolves need a bruising defensive center right now...DAMN YOUR KNEE THEO!! Antoine is also terrible at fouling. Foul hard or just let it goand you're not strong enough to stop Perkins from 2 ftToine. It's easy to look at the end of the gamebut there's plenty of other things the Wolves could have done to win. Al only took 14 shotsthat's inexcusableeven when the entire focus of the C's D is preventing him from getting the ball. Gerald played almost the entire 2nd quarterand it was the Wolves worst quarter on both ends of the court. That's not a coincidence. Not enough ball movement. Al didn't do well on Dbut I suspect some of it was because he and Perkins are so familiar which eachother's games. Gerald should not get off the bench. Except when cheering. Don't get me wrongI still love KG but it really hurt my feelings. This was sad. I know KG is always on fire and when they win close games it's pretty normal but hey no need to call them M'Fers and so on It was the fact that he held the Celtics jersey out for about a minute and celebrated like he was Bryce Drew after beating the worst team in the league by 1 point. So much for his comments on this being just another game... It seemed like he took quite a bit of pleasure in sticking it to the Wolves. From the taunting and yelling at the players after the gameto him holding up the "Celtics" on his jersey as he walked off the floor. It was as if he was emphasizing how happy he is to be in Boston and dissing MN. To be honest I don't know if I ever remember him walking off the floor in MN proudly holding up his "Timberwolves" jersey like he did tonight. It all seemed pretty low class. He's been around the league long enough that he shouldn't have had to celebrate this win like it was a playoff gameunless he took a little extra pleasure in sticking it to his former teamwhich it appeared he did. I hope karma bites in 2 weeks and we beat Boston in 'sota' Yeahi really hope we do and all 12 of our guys in uniform do the same thing.

Celtics Barely Escape with an 87-86 Win
Friday, January 25, 2008
by FLCeltsFan 11:20 PM
Before the game, expectations were high for the Celtics to blow this one out. The Wolves had only won 7 games. They are a young team and the Celtics are a veteran team. Should have been easy. But, this game was anything but easy. The Wolves kept it close all game and there were 30 lead changes and 22 ties and neither team led by more than 6. The game went right down to the wire and it took a big error on the Wolves part and last second heroics by KG to pull out the 87-86 win over the young Timberwolves.
The Celtics really did not play well and it didn't have anything to do with the Wolves' defense. They played sloppy, turning the ball over 23 times. They lacked defensive energy and they had no flow to their offense. There were some tense minutes in this game as Kevin Garnett came up limping and holding his stomach in the 4th quarter. He left the game and went back to the locker room.Dickerson said that he went down on one knee and could barely get up. He came back out after 4 minutes, though, and begged Doc to let him go into the game. The team doctor gave him the ok to return, while the trainer gave thumbs down to a return. KG won out and came back into the game to grab 2 crucial rebounds in the final 2 minutes. He was still holding his stomach after one of the rebounds. On the last play of the game, Celtics were up by 1 and Perk and Rondo doubled Al so that he couldn't get a shot off. Al passed out to Bassy around the top of the arc. KG then poked the ball away and dove to the floor and retrieved it, passing it ahead to Rondo to seal the victory.
KG was playing on adrenalin at the end of the game. After the game, he was walking around the court holding out the Celtics on his Jersey and screaming. He was definitely pumped. Hopefully, the injury wasn't serious and he will have no ill effects from it as we can't afford to lose him for any length of time. They said it was an abdominal strain, but I remember Kandi missing much of last season with an abdominal tear that he suffered in a similar manner. KG finished with 10 points, 16 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 block. In his post game press conference, he had this to say: "I wasn't going to do anything that would to jeopardize my future. But my philosophy has always been that if I can play, if I can run, if I can move, if I can blink, if I can wake up in the morning, I'm going to play. It felt like I got sniped from the rafters or something, you know," Garnett said. "I just had a sharp pain come from my stomach and I just wanted the doctors to look at it. They looked at it and said I was fine, so I came back out."
Kendrick Perkins came through with a big game for the second time in a week, scoring 21 points, pulling down 4 rebounds, and blocking 3 shots in 27 minutes. He also played great defense on Big Al, holding him to only 15 points and 5 rebounds. He made a couple of big plays down the stretch to help pull out the win. With 16.6 seconds left in the game, Ray Allen drove to the hoop and missed a layup. Perk was there to grab the rebound in traffic and lay it in to give the Celtics a 1 point lead. He also played solid defense on the last play, preventing Al from getting a shot off.
Paul Pierce filled up the stat sheet and did a little of everything finishing with 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists. He turned the ball over 6 times, however. Ray Allen continues with his shooting woes, going 4-18 from the field for 12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal. He also had 5 turnovers. He missed wide open shots including several missed layups. Makes me wonder if the injuries are still bothering him. Ray could definitely benefit from resting over the All Star break. Rondo struggled again defensively, allowing Telfair to get past him and to score 18 points. Rondo finished with 4 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 1 block.
Leon Powe once again made the most of his minutes, scoring 7 points, pulling down 2 rebounds and blocking a shot in just 11 minutes. Big Baby brought energy to the second unit, diving for loose balls and at one time going down very hard on a rebound. He finished with 4 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist in 20 minutes. Tony had several nice drives to the basket and did a good job on the boards, finishing with 7 points, 6 rebounds and 1 steal. House, like Ray, had an off shooting night, going 1-4 from the floor and finishing with 3 points, 1 steal and 1 block. Scal, Posey, Pruitt and Pollard did not play.
The Celtics shot only 42% while holding the Wolves to 41%. The Celtics won the battle of the boards, pulling down 47 rebounds to 35 for the Wolves. The Celtics also had 48 points in the paint compared to 34 for the Wolves. What hurt the Celtics were their 23 turnovers as they played a very sloppy game. They also played defense in just short spurts. KG shot only 5 shots in the game and hit 4 of them. This is inexcusable, especially when he had a mismatch and had 4 inches on the player guarding him. They should have been going to KG all game long. The trash talk returned in this game as KG and Big Al were given technicals in the third quarter. Tony and Antoine were also jawing at each other. This sets the table for a huge matchup with this team on February 8 in Minnesota. The Celtics face the Magic in Orlando on Sunday and they will be embarrassed if they don't figure out what is wrong with their defense and fix it.

Herald Just another game for KG FL's Take: Since there isn't anyone left on the Wolves that KG was close to, I don't think this game will be as emotional for KG as when they play in Minnesota. That will be emotional as being in the same building that he played in for so many years with the Minny fans there will bring back memories. This game, not so much. Jefferson's star rises in Minneapolis, Posey aims for Sunday FL's Take: Al is going to be an All Star for many years to come. I felt bad for Al when the trade went down. I think what I felt the worst about was that Al was going to have to play with Mark Blount again. I was happy to see Blount leave. Walker was always a good teammate and will be good for Al. I hope Al gets a good reception tonight because he loved Boston and loved being a Celtic. When you consider how young he is and that this is just his second season and he spent his first season playing behind West and Bassy, Rondo is doing quite well. When the star steps up, it is hard for everyone else not to. The Celtics also missed Posey's defense off the bench. He brings a lot to this team and you notice it more when it isn't there than when it is. Perk is right about one thing. It is going to be a war tonight. The Wolves are coming in with the confidence of 2 quality wins and the Celtics better not take them for granted.

All Star Starters Announced - KG Tops List
Thursday, January 24, 2008
by FLCeltsFan 10:41 PM
The starters for the All Star game were announced tonight and as expected, KG was the top vote getter. KG received 2,399,148 votes which is the sixth highest total in NBA All-Star balloting history. This will be KG's 11th All Star Game. Among active players, only Shaquille O'Neal, who has played in 14, has appeared in more.
Paul Pierce finished 4th among forwards, coming in behind KG, Lebron James and Chris Bosh. Ray Allen was third behind Dwayne Wade and Jason Kidd. There is a good case for both of them to be picked by the coaches as reserves. However, if they aren't picked, the rest will definitely do them good. Doc Rivers will be the coach of the Eastern All Star team and the Western coach hasn't been set yet.
Here are the starters for both conferences: Eastern Conference Forwards Kevin Garnett and LeBron James Guards Dwayne Wade an Jason Kidd Center Dwight Howard Coach Doc Rivers
Western Conference Forwards Carmelo Anthony and Tim Duncan Guards Kobe Bryant and Allen Iverson Center Yao Ming Coach TBD

Catching Up with the TimberCelts
by FLCeltsFan 9:33 PM
It is kind of strange playing a team that has 6 former Celtics on it. When we played them in the preseason, Ricky Davis was their top scorer and Mark Blount started at Center. Since then, Davis and Blount are gone, Employee #8 is a Timberwolf and Big Al and Ryan Gomes have done some growing and are playing great. Gerald Green has disappeared into the woodwork, Sebastian Telfair is looking like a decent point guard, Theo Ratliff is injured again, and the Wolves have as many wins as the Celtics have losses.
I really hated to see Big Al go because I could see him developing into a dominant offensive player for many, many years. Big Al is averaging 20.8 points, 12.1 rebounds, 1.3 blocks and 1.2 assists and seems to be getting better with each game. KG is averaging 19.5 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.4 blocks. Their stats are comparable. KG is averaging slightly fewer points and rebounds and more assists because he has 2 all star teammates to share the load. But, the leadership, intangibles, and intensity that KG brings to the team are irreplaceable. But the biggest difference between KG and Big Al is on the defensive end. KG's defensive intensity makes the Celtics defense work. One day, Big Al may be that type of leader, but it will take time. Big Al is playing center for the Wolves and will match up against Perk. These guys are best of friends, but on the court, they will go at each other with a passion because that is the kind of players they are.
Ryan Gomes has been playing very well. He had a career high 35 points with 11 rebounds in the win over Golden State this past week. He is averaging 11.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists. He was another player I hated to see go. I can see Gomes developing into a Posey type player. The Wolves didn't pick up his option for next year and he will be a free agent. He very well may consider coming back to the Celtics since he is a local product. Only time will tell. He will be matched up against KG in the game against the Celtics as he is the Wolves starting power forward. He gives up 4 inches in height and the Celtics will probably look to exploit this matchup.
Gerald Green has all but disappeared in Minnesota. He continues to be inconsistent and has played sparingly with 20 DNP's already. He is averaging 4.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 11.8 minutes per game. He has played 30+ minutes in 2 games this season. He played 30 minutes in a loss to Golden State and had 18 points on 6-13 shooting with 8 rebounds and 2 assists. He played 32 minutes in a loss to the Hornets and shot 4-13 for 11 points to go with 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 turnovers. He continues to show flashes of the talent that makes him so intriguing but is still very inconsistent. He will be defending his slam dunk title over All Star Weekend and I will be pulling for him.
Sebastian Telfair has been playing very well for the Wolves. He is their starting point guard and is averaging 9.6 points, 5.9 assists and 1.1 steals in 32.6 minutes per game. He seems to finally be getting it.
Theo Ratliff has played in 6 games for the Wolves which is 4 more than he played for the Celtics. He was basically an expiring contract but they were also hoping to get something from him on the court this season. He averaged 8.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks before going down with a knee injury. He had arthroscopic surgery and has started running and light workouts and hopes to return by February 13.
The final Celtic on the Wolves roster is Antoine Walker. Walker is a very polarizing figure as some Celtics fans love him and would love to have him back in Boston for a third run, whilc others hate him and couldn't wait to get rid of him while he was here. Antoine once described himself as a volume scorer and still loves to hoist 3's. His career has gone downhill from starting for the Celtics team that went to the conference finals to coming off the bench for the Timberwolves. He does have a ring, though, that he loves to remind Pierce about. But after this season, hopefully Pierce will have a ring of his own. Walker is averaging 9.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 20 minutes per game off the bench. He is shooting 38% from the field, 35% from beyond the arc, and 51% from the field.
The Wolves have won 2 games in a row over quality teams. They beat the 25-18 Warriors on the road behind 35 points and 11 rebounds from Ryan Gomes and then beat the 30-13 Suns at home behind 39 points and 15 rebounds from Al Jefferson. I can see Big Al and Ryan being much more classy about playing the Celtics than Ricky and Blount were, but you know that they are going to play very hard and will want the win very badly. The Celtics better not take them for granted, or the Celtics may have a 2 game skid, while the Wolves go on a 3 game win streak.

Comments from the Other Side - Raptors
by FLCeltsFan 8:32 AM
Here are some comments found around the Raptors boards during their 114-112 win over the Celtics. The Raptors have some great fans. Game threads run over 70 pages with a lot of thoughtful (and some not so thoughtful) comments.
I'm just going to go out on a limb and predict a loss. Hopefully we can pull it off, that would be really nice after such a horrible game tonight! Will Rondo play ? Does anyone know I don't think so. Which will give us a bit of an advantage. Calderon>>>House. Hopefully we beat them so they continue there woes. What you will see becoming an issue against the Celtics is zone defenses, because I don't think they do a good job offensively against them. They stand around too much when they should be moving against a matchup zone like the Wizards were playing against them. Against that kind of defense, you should be running your man-to-man offense and forcing the switches that make the defense vulnerable. But the Celtics look stagnant in their 1-3-1 set, and that makes their guys easy for the defenders to find. "The word is out now that the Celtics have problems against zones, and they'll be seeing a lot more of them.'' If Rondo's out, I think we have a chance. Sounds strange since we have the big 3 to contend with, but he can get to anywhere on the floor against Jose, completely disrupting our defence. KG sends Bargnani to the bench in the first 3 minutes.
Just keep it close, and watchable. We have to be firing on all cylinders to get the win.
I heard a rumour that Boston is asking the league to waive the 6-foul rule for Bargnani for this game. And that Smitch is fighting to keep it in place.
Rasho comes off the bench and shows KG how its done in the post. He schools KG and KG fouls out and goes to the bench in tears. I hate the Celtics more than any other team in the NBA and that includes the NJ Nets. Raptors will forfeit the game after the 3rd quarter.
We can win, attack Kevin Garnett and force him to sit with foul trouble like our 1st game Jose needs to watch rondo, that will be the breaking point Imo Perkins is gonna own Bustnani. Seriously. For some reason doc rivers doesn't seem to have a lot of charisma or aura about him Tony Allen looking like an allstar. Can we stop acting like Duncan's guarding Bargnani, we have Brian Scalabrine on him TAKE ADVANTAGE!!! You have got to be kidding me... Anyone else see Veal Scalabrine out muscle Bargnani! Another and 1 for Toronto. Man Boston is bailing us out Scal the beast I think the Celts have built their gameplan so much around bosh that they don't know how to defend the rest of the team. I cant stand Rajon Rondo. Not sure why Boston getting a ton of hometown calls Boston getting owned , officials helping them out Davis is playing well, that sucks. Get him in foul trouble! The most comical looking frontcourt in the league right now? Scalabrine and Big Baby? Scalibrine is ugly. I hate him The ref's are calling everything like tommy does, everything the raps do on defense is a foul and everything Boston does is not Has anyone noticed how the clock seems to continue running for a second or two after the Celtics score? The refs for sure get some Tommy points tonight These refs bleed Celtic green Relax, refs haven't been great both ways. Remember the KG non call where bargs definitely fouled him (in the first). Bargs would have had 2 at that point, and would have totally changed the game. I mean Celtics are getting calls cause there always in the paint 50 to 12 scoring in the paint, that's just dirty. The refs give Scalopine and Davis the respect over Bosh. Disgusting. Finally call something on fatty Davis Boston has no idea how to defend the three, it's pathetic. Doc Rivers looks surprised when a call goes against them. Can someone please kill that ugly Mofo Pierce? I always hated the very sight of him.. We lost. I cant believe how we give up games like this. P.S. If we win I will drink 5L of milk and water. Raptors are sure showing the world how defense should be played in basketball. Ah well, refs won it for the Celts. Do all Boston people think that every call against them is unfair? And how does Celtics fans deal with their announcers. They are down right horrible. It FFRUSTRATES me to see scalabrine and Eddie house jumping up and down like they are the ****. They havent done ANYTHING besides a couple plays Man I hate the Celtics!! Wow if ray Allen getting his own rebound doesn't show that Raps are the worse rebounding team in NBA history I don't know what does <3 refs are on our side now I hate Boston with a passion, I really really do. Celtics are drowning in 3's WE ARE WINNING THIS..WE DESERVE IT Tommy said it would be "a miracle" if the Celtics win. I love Garnet's intensity I hate ray Allen. He does it again Is it me, or does Ray Allen must have a grudge against the raptors, he's always hitting big shots against us. Lol this kid Rondo's going to have nightmares for the rest of his life. Forget that Billups ownage, Calderon is eating this kid alive. Don't know what Doc Rivers was doing. 15-21 from 3s and he just keeps letting the Raps shoot them. A key stat here: the Raps had 20 less field goal attempts. This win is a total fluke. They needed 15 3s and 19-19 from the line just to squeak out this win. Rebounding continues to be a major issue. Etc etc.
Today, it feels like something huge. But soon, everyone will realize, we're not going to shoot this high a percentage come playoff time, when everyone plays a notch or 2 higher.
I am giddy about this win as anybody. However, the reality is we cannot expect to win shooting 75% on 3s, giving up 16 offensive rebounds, 56 points in the paint and 20 extra shots to the opposition. Let's enjoy the win, but we got work to do. BC knows this.
As some people say, "the best defense is a good offense" lol. And "a win's a win." I'll still take it. GO RAPS!
It wasn't that the guys were making jumpshots today, it was how they set them up. The team had 32 assists today on 40 made FGs which is pretty ridiculous. The International-style ballmovement was in full effect and showed the offensive potential of the team.
As for the rebounding and turnovers, well Boston is a great defensive and good rebounding team, so those things happen sometimes. But again it just goes to show how good our team can be when the pace of our offensive sets is high and the good quality shots it results in. We won in spite of our deficiencies.
The suns and warriors lose to the twolves because nobody can guard big al
Well I'm still trying to figure out how the heck we won. As many turnovers we had and rebounds we gave up...it just doesn't make sense.

Celtics Defense Takes the Night Off
by FLCeltsFan 7:38 AM
The Celtics are the number 1 team in the league defending the 3. On the other hand, the Raptors are the number 1 team at hitting 3's. One or the other had to give in their meeting last night. It turned out to be the Celtics defense as they left the visitors open for 3's all night. The Raptors shot 58% from the field and 71% from beyond the arc along with hitting 19 of 19 from the free throw line. It seemed at times that they hit every shot they threw up, but they did miss 6 of the 21 3's they took. The Raptors shot as well as any team can and the Celtics defense just wasn't there tonight. The Raptors didn't defend particularly well as the Celtics scored inside seemingly at will (56 points in the paint), but their jumpers weren't falling.
KG did a bit of everything, finishing with 26 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 1 block. Pierce also had a good all around game with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists and 2 steals. Like the other 2 of the Celtics Stars, Ray Allen did a little of everything, finishing with 19 points on 7-16 shooting to go with 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Perk finished with 4 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks. Rondo had 14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals but got beat by Jose Calderon on defense all night, including a game winning layup and 3 point play with 10 seconds left in the game.
Tony Allen had one of his best games coming off the bench to score 15 points on assorted jumpers and drives. He also pulled down 4 rebounds and dished out 2 assists to go with 2 steals and 2 blocks. While the Raptors were hot, the Celtics struggled as Eddie House was just 2-9 for 4 points to go with 1 rebound, 4 assists, and 1 steal. Scal played well, finishing with 3 points and 5 rebounds including a buzzer beater at the end of the third to put the Celtics up 91-84. Big Baby also played well scoring 8 points and pulling down 2 rebounds in 11+ minutes. Powe was the first big off the bench but played just 5:46 and had only 2 fouls and a charge to show for it. James Posey sat out his second game with a finger injury. The Celtics could really have used him in this game. Pollard and Pruitt also did not play in this game.
This was a game of runs as the Celtics led by as many as 11 in the first half but allowed the Raptors to come back and take a 49-47 lead going into half time. The Celtics led 91-84 at the end of 3 and were up by 8 in the 4th quarter at 94-86. The Raptors then went on a 25-16 run to take the lead at 111-110. Ray Allen hit what could have been the game winner as he hit a 17 footer to give the Celtics a 112-111 lead. Calderon then beat Rondo off the dribble and drove down the lane for a layup and was fouled by Rondo for a 114-112 lead. The Celtics had a chance to win it, but House's 3 was off the mark. The rebound came out to Ray Allen who missed a fall away from the free throw line at the buzzer.
The officiating was bad on both sides but at times it seemed as though Tommy and the Raptors fans were watching 2 different games. Tommy had some choice words for the young official Eli. Both were complaining that the officiating was one sided. Actually, it was. In the beginning, the bad calls were going the Celtics way. In the middle of the game, the bad calls seemed to go in favor of the Raptors. At the end of the game, there were bad calls both ways. There were bad calls all game on both sides. In general, the officiating this season has been some of the worst I have seen in a long time.
The Celtics shot 20 more shots than the Raptors and made 4 more field goals than the Raptors. The Celtics outscored the Raptors 56-16 in the paint. The Celtics had 26 fast break points to none for the Raptors. The Celtics had 12 turnovers to 18 for the Raptors. But, the difference in the game was the Raptor's hot shooting from beyond the arc. They were left open for shot after shot and they made them. Credit the Raptors for playing the Celtics well. They earned the win and the Celtics have their lack perimeter defense to blame for the loss.

Posey Out, Pollard Still Nursing Ankle
Wednesday, January 23, 2008
by FLCeltsFan 1:02 PM
The Globe is reporting that James Posey will miss tonight's game against the Raptors as he is still trying to heal his injured finger. He has been playing with the injury since the West coast trip. Hopefully it won't take too long to heal. Some have been wondering what has happened to Scott Pollard who has been missing in action lately. The ankle that caused him to miss much of training camp is still bothering him.
Rivers said forward James Posey will miss his second straight game tonight against the Raptors with a sprained index finger on his right hand. Posey sat out of practice yesterday and was on the sideline with ice bags on his right hand and his knees. "It's improving, but at the same time anything can probably reaggravate it," Posey said. "It's a matter of calming everything down so it's pain-free." . . . Center Scot Pollard has not played the last six games. He has been nursing a sore right ankle and had a slight limp while running up the court in practice yesterday. "I'm in uniform," Pollard said. "I wish it was feeling better."

Fiddlin' and Diddlin' - Daily Links 1/23
by FLCeltsFan 9:55 AM
Herald Doc orders a dose of poise FL's Take: I agree that the Celtics are going to need to tone down the trash talk and not let teams get under their skins. Trash talk can backfire. Sometimes it rattles the opponent but often it riles them up and when they start giving it back, it can backfire like it did on Pierce in the Knicks game. Pierce has to learn to keep his cool. KG has to tone down the trash talk. Perk has to stop arguing calls. Teams are going to try this tactic more and more to try to take the Celtics out of the game and the Celtics need to be ready for it. Stars hope to align Globe Pierce says ref overreacted FL's Take: I don't think the refs overreacted. The game was getting increasingly chippy and Pierce and QRich were going at it. They warned them once and it continued. The fact that Richardson was looking for a fight and challenging Pierce all the way to the locker room tells me that it was reaching the boiling point. MetroWest Daily Rivers wants to take out the trash talk Celtics.com Post ups notebook: Tuesday practice LOY's Place Random thoughts Kevin Garnett Beyond the Glory ESPN Midterm grades Yardbarker I'm Back - Rondo's blog FL's Take: Very good to have Rondo back. The offense just flows more efficiently when he is manning the point. They get the ball up quicker, get into their sets quicker, and Rondo just keeps the team more poised. This kid is just in his second season and is really going to be special if he continues as he has been. My biggest concern is that he takes some very hard hits and like Doc said, he has no padding to buffer those hits. He has already been hurt because of hard hits and hopefully teams won't take that as a strategy of stopping the Celtics. My first game at Madison Square Garden Perkisabeast The phony tough and the bogus brave Full Court Press Perk is not a beast FL's Take: Perk is doing just what Doc asks him to this season. He has a role. Set picks, Box out. Perk doesn't get points but he sets the picks for his teammates to get them. Perk doesn't always get the rebounds but he is there boxing out and creating space for his teammates to get them. If we don't get the rebounds, it is because his teammates aren't filling their roles. Kevin Garnett - Beyond the Glory

Random Thoughts
by FLCeltsFan 8:48 PM
First, this week there is a free League Pass preview from January 21-27. So, most of you can watch the Raptors game if you have Digital Cable or DTV. The game is on channel 754 on Direct TV. Also, the price has dropped to $99 for the rest of the season.
The Dunk Contest participants have been named. Gerald Green will defend his title against Rudy Gay, Jamario Moon and Dwight Howard. While I would love to see Green repeat, I think Dwight Howard had one of the best dunks last year and it was a shame that he wasn't allowed to go on to the finals. I can't wait to see what he comes up with this season.
New York Sun has a couple paragraphs that are very interesting about Doc's coaching in the Knicks game.
Another bad rout was a possibility when Celtics coach Doc Rivers did the Knicks a big favor. Early in the second quarter, he countered the Knicks' "energy unit" — the group led by pivotman David Lee, guard Nate Robinson, and swingman Jared Jeffries — with a motley crew of Celtics, including Allen, guard Tony Allen, guard Eddie House, forward Leon Powe, and power forward Brian Scalabrine. The small Boston lineup couldn't board to save their lives, and the Knicks closed the gap to two points before the Celtics' starters came back and restored the double-digit lead by halftime.
I suppose it's hard to take a team seriously after you've beaten them by 45, but Rivers's move seemed careless and irresponsible. He had Glen "Big Baby" Davis at his disposal, and he is a much better rebounder than Scalabrine. Rivers can afford these sorts of mad scientist moments against the Knicks, but against tougher opposition, the Celts will suffer if they don't maximize their personnel The one thing that worries me is Doc's love of small ball. We invariably get beat on the boards when he goes small. Going to the bench is ok, but Doc needs to keep rebounders on the floor. If anything beats us this season, it will be small ball.
The Raptors are coming to Boston for their 4th and final attempt at a win against the Celtics this season. They are the defending Atlantic champions and the Celtics haven't lost a division game yet. Should be a good game as these two teams have been building a rivalry over the last couple of years.
The Heat have lost 14 in a row. Just 4 more and they will tie the Celtics 18 game losing streak from last season. They have lost 14 games AND they have Mark Blount. That is like adding insult to injury.
James Posey doesn't know how he hurt his hand but it has been bothering him since the West coast trip. Hopefully only a couple of games off and he will be as good as new. Rondo said he felt good after the Knicks game in spite of being hit hard by Curry. You know, we talk a lot about Big Baby's size. New York has some very hefty players on their roster.
Teams now are developing a new strategy to beat the Celtics. If they can goad the Celtics into losing their cool, maybe they can get one or two thrown out. The Celtics, especially Pierce, need to learn to check their emotions and keep their cool. They will be seeing more of this in the future.

Herald Pierce, C's lose it in a win FL's Take: I agree with Doc that the team, and Pierce especially, need to keep their emotions in check. There are plenty of teams who would be happy to sacrifice a bench player for Pierce or one of the Celtics stars. We can't afford that against most teams. Chalk this up to another learning experience. Davis a big fan of Faulk Doc earns trip to All Star game FL's Take: I think it is great that Doc will get to coach the All Star game. He will have at least one Celtic on the team with him.
